Supportive Housing & Innovative Partnerships (SHIP)
Hello, my name is Monica Torres, and I am proud to serve in several roles at Supportive Housing & Innovative Partnerships (SHIP), including Men’s Civilian Housing Liaison, SHIP's Magellan Administrator, and SHIP's Administrator for GEO/IDOC Funding. I am also a commissioned Notary Public for the State of Idaho. Always by my side is my loyal dog, Booker, who brings energy and smiles to our daily work.
Coming from a family with a long history of addiction—and having faced personal struggles myself—I developed a deep passion for helping individuals in recovery live healthier, more stable lives. This passion led me to pursue a career in social work with a focus on addiction, trauma, and homelessness.
My journey with SHIP began in the fall of 2015 as a Master of Social Work (MSW) intern. After earning my degree, I was honored to help develop and launch Idaho’s first Enhanced Safe and Sober (ESS) Program. On August 15, 2017, alongside a dedicated team, we opened our doors to individuals with co-occurring severe and persistent mental illness and substance use disorders. The program operated successfully for 7.5 years, providing critical support to many. Unfortunately, due to funding constraints, the ESS program closed in May 2025.
Today, I oversee four men’s civilian recovery houses in Boise, ensuring safe, clean, and supportive environments for individuals in recovery. In addition to housing oversight, I manage SHIP’s Magellan services, oversee all GEO/IDOC-funded placements, and assist residents and staff with notarial services as needed.
Known affectionately by many as "Momika," I strive to be a bold and compassionate advocate for those in recovery—providing guidance, accountability, and unwavering support. My approach is direct, always with residents' best interests at heart, even when the conversations are difficult.
Outside of work, I love exploring the Idaho outdoors, especially off-roading in my Jeep Wrangler. I enjoy painting, crafting, and most of all, spending time with my wife, son, our dogs—Lucky (a Pitbull/Blue Heeler mix) and Booker (a Golden Doodle)—our fish (Burger and the BBQ Sauce Gang), and our extended family and friends. My favorite food? Carne asada street tacos!
At SHIP, we believe in building a strong sense of community—we are more than just housing, we are family. If you're looking for a safe, supportive, and welcoming place to call home, we’re here for you. Let us be part of your journey.
If you're interested in housing or recovery resources—or just want to visit the Zen Den and learn more—I look forward to meeting you and supporting your journey toward recovery.
THANK YOU!
